The holiday season is near, and that means parties, get-togethers and chances for overeating. You want to exercise more to compensate, but it's difficult to accomplish with your busy agenda. It's so easy to convince yourself that you don't have the time. Here are five ideas for getting a workout during the holidays and having fun doing it.
People watch.
Go to the airport and walk a brisk mile. There are long corridors connecting all the airlines and it's inside protected from the weather. Reward yourself afterward by watching people. Travelers are usually excited this time of year and come from various places.
Take a horse-drawn carriage ride.
Most city-center shopping areas offer carriage rides as holiday promotions. City centers usually have tall buildings with stairs! Perform a rigorous stair-step session and reward yourself afterwards with a carriage ride.
Watch your favorite holiday movie.
You have your traditions, right? Watching that old-time favorite movie is one of them. Well air pop that popcorn and plug in the movie. Just make sure you're on the treadmill or exercise bike while you're watching it. Invite a friend and take turns.
Go ice-skating.
Need I say more? It's a great holiday activity. You can go alone or schedule a group party. Other ideas are cross-country skiing, sledding or snowshoeing. Dress warm and prepare to make memories!
Plan a shopping relay race.
This is a group activity because you will need teams to compete. Everyone has a shopping list with limited time to shop. Why not get it done fast together and have a social event while doing it? You will need a stopwatch or timer, some basic guidelines or rules, and a list to shop for. Everyone meets at a central point and agrees to the timeline. When the race begins, one member of each team speedwalks around the mall returning to the meeting point and tags the next member of the team who then walks their lag of the relay.
This is repeated until all members of the team have completed the race. Of course the team that completes the race first is the winner. You could have a prize incentive or agree ahead of time that the losing team treats the winners to refreshments. After the race, the team members are free to complete their individual shopping.
